It is interesting that an amendment to the 1941 Uniform Regulations (BP CL 199-44)(7-12-44) addressed the wearing of fourrageres on Navy uniforms. Fourrageres were authorized for wear and the following was added with regard to attaching it; "In order to attach the fourragere to the naval uniform, a button may be sewed to the left shoulder of the coat or jumper under the collar." The original owner of this uniform joined the Naval Reserve in 1939. He was attached to the 6th Marines in California in 1941 and was assigned to Iceland in July of 1941. In January of 1943, he was sent to Guadalcanal and in November took part in the landing at Tarawa. In June of 1944, he took part in the landings on Saipan. (J. Warner)
